Log-Gevity™ End Grain Sealer Log-Gevity™ End Grain Sealer provides the ultimate protection against the intrusion of moisture and water to sawed ends of logs and lumber. Excess moisture that finds its way to cracks and voids will ultimately cause the finish to fail and encourages wood decay. Wood decay is most likely to occur where moisture content of 25% or greater is present. The sawed ends of logs and lumber are the most susceptible to such cracks and voids due to the fact that the log has been cut open at these ends. In fact, the immersion of a butt end of a sawed log in water will increase its' total mass by 12% in less than one hour. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Log-Gevity End Grain Sealer is an oilbased, low VOC product that provides the ultimate protection against the intrusion of moisture and water to sawed ends of logs and lumber. Excess moisture finds its way to cracks and voids and ultimately causes the finish to fail and encourages wood decay. Wood decay is most likely to occur where moisture content of 25% or greater is present. The sawed ends of logs and lumber are the most susceptible to such cracks and voids because the log has been cut open at these ends. In fact, the immersion of a butt end of a sawed log in water will increase its total mass by 12% in less than one hour. This trapped moisture will leave your structure particularly vulnerable to decay. Log-Gevity End Grain Sealer has been specifically designed to counteract such moisture penetration.

Precautions: Read the entire material safety data sheet and product label for a more thorough evaluation of hazards. Fully protect all adjacent surfaces as well as general work area. When spraying near vegetation, cover plant life with cardboard or other suitable material in case of overspray.

Environmental Hazards: This product maybe toxic to fish. Do not apply directly to water, to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Do not contaminate water by disposal of equipment washwaters. Do not use on wood that will be in direct contact with soil.

TECHNICAL DATA

VOC Content Limit: Less than 250 grams per liter.

Packaging: One and five gallon containers.

Coverage: Approximately 75-100 square feet per 1 gallon (subject to age and porosity of end grain).

PROPER SURFACE PREPARATION IF YOU HAVE NEW OR OLD, DIRTY OR WEATHERED LOGS/WOOD

Clean logs/wood with Log-Gevity New Log Prep or other Log-Gevity Product.
Sand exposed log ends.
Apply a coat of Log-Gevity Log Stain & Stabilizer.
If color is desired, select from a wide variety of pre-mixed, ready-to-use Log- Gevity Stain & Stabilizer transparent and solid color stains.
Note: Once the Log-Gevity Stain & Stabilizer is applied, your logs have sufficient protection for 12 months or longer before finish coat or chinking need to be applied.
Apply Log-Gevity End Grain Sealer to exposed log ends with brush.
Apply a top coat of Log-Gevity Log Finish Coat.
Apply Log-Gevity Log Chinking anytime after the stabilizer or finish has been applied and cured.

IF YOU HAVE AN EXISTING COATING (i.e. FAILED FINISH)

Strip the previous coating with the recommended Log-Gevity Stripper. Note: Before beginning the overall stripping project, test panels should always be made on all elevations to conclude satisfactory performance and dwell time. Follow the complete Log-Gevity Stripper instructions.

GENERAL DIRECTIONS It is a violation of Federal Law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling.

Mix Log-Gevity End Grain Sealer well before using. A test area should be performed before beginning overall project to determine the amount of Log-Gevity End Grain Sealer the wood will absorb, dry time, log/wood porosity and total desired look. Fully protect all adjacent surfaces as well as general work area. When spraying near vegetation, cover plant life with cardboard or other suitable material in case of overspray.

FOR BEST RESULTS AND OPTIMAL PENETRATION: APPLY TO DRY LOGS/WOOD. DO NOT APPLY IF RAIN IS IMMINENTLY FORECASTED. BOTH SURFACE AND AIR TEMPERATURE MUST BE ABOVE 50ºF.

EXPOSED END GRAIN APPLICATION

Apply Log-Gevity End Grain Sealer with a brush. Work vigorously into all surfaces.
Apply liberally until Log-Gevity End Grain Sealer appears to have sufficient amount of protection.

CAUTION: Use extreme caution while walking on a horizontal surface during application. Horizontal surfaces can become slippery during and just after product application.

DRY TIME: Allow at least 24 hours to dry.

CLEAN UP: Use mineral spirits or dish detergent and water. Should Log-Gevity End Grain Sealer come in contact with surfaces such as glass, paint, metal, caulking or rubber, remove immediately with dish detergent. If a spill is dry, clean it with mineral spirits.

STORAGE: Keep container closed when not in use. Store in cool place. This product should be kept out of reach of children and stored away from food.

DISPOSAL: Do not reuse empty can. Wrap can and place in trash. Leaking or damaged containers should be placed in a plastic bag and discarded. Contact local, state, or federal agencies to ensure compliance of proper disposal methods and respective regulations.
