Dormers and Knee Walls

Shed dormers, knee walls and gabled windows dormers can all be incorporated into a 1-1/2 or 2 story home in order to give the homeowner more usable space on the second floor. Shed dormers can be of any length and should be determined by the living area on the second floor that requires additional height. Windows are usually added in the dormers and provide additional light to the second floor.

Knee walls, or short walls, are shorter than shed dormers and can be of any height. Knee walls allow for more headroom on the second floor.
